In cooperation with SEA Milan Airports, the expansion brings 40 new direct jobs, greater connectivity and even more affordable travel from Milan with fares starting from €14.99
Wizz Air, the second largest airline in Italy by market share, is further strengthening its presence at Milan Malpensa Airport, together with SEA Milan Airports, announcing a new phase of development of its base at the airport. During a joint press conference, the airline confirmed the allocation of its 10th aircraft at Milan Malpensa starting from 25 October 2026, a strategic investment that further reinforces the base’s role within Wizz Air’s European network.
The addition of the new aircraft will further increase the airline’s operational capacity at the airport, generating 500,000 additional seats annually. The expansion will also contribute to the development of the local economy by creating 40 new direct jobs, while supporting more than 350 indirect jobs across the local supply chain.
With this addition, Milan Malpensa will continue to grow as Wizz Air’s second largest base in Italy, with 10 aircraft based and a network of 47 routes across 21 countries. The development will enable Wizz Air to further expand connectivity from Milan through the launch of five new international routes, offering passengers additional travel opportunities across Europe. New flights will connect Milan Malpensa with Dortmund, Bilbao, Cluj, Iași and Palma de Mallorca, further expanding the airline’s network from the Lombardy region.
The new routes will operate as follows:
- Milan Malpensa – Dortmund – Daily (from 25 October 2026)
- Milan Malpensa – Bilbao – 4 to 5 weekly frequencies (route launch from 11 May 2026)
- Milan Malpensa – Cluj – Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (from 10 May 2026)
- Milan Malpensa – Iași – Monday, Wednesday and Friday (from 20 May 2026)
- Milan Malpensa – Palma de Mallorca – Daily (from 11 May 2026)
Alongside the launch of new international destinations, Wizz Air will also strengthen its domestic network from Milan Malpensa, further improving connectivity between Northern and Southern Italy. The airline will introduce two new domestic routes to Naples and Palermo, expanding travel opportunities within Italy. The connection between Milan Malpensa and Naples will be further reinforced with an increase from daily to double daily flights starting from 1 September, responding to the strong demand for travel between the two cities.
From the upcoming summer season, flights from Milan Malpensa will operate up to 22 weekly frequencies to Catania and up to 7 weekly to Lampedusa, offering passengers greater flexibility while further consolidating Milan’s role as an important gateway linking different regions of the country.
The airline is also expanding capacity on some of the most popular international routes from Milan, including Corfu, Heraklion, Tirana, Valencia and Warsaw, ensuring greater seat availability on destinations that continue to experience strong passenger demand.
This expansion reflects Wizz Air’s continued commitment to growing its presence in Milan and, together with SEA Milan Airports, to providing passengers with more travel options, stronger connectivity and consistently low fares across its expanding European network.
Tickets are already available on wizzair.com and via the official Wizz Air mobile app, with fares starting from €14.99.
This continued growth reflects the strong demand for Wizz Air’s services from the Milan region. During this year – before the allocation of the 10th aircraft – the airline planned to deploy almost 5.5 million seats from the city, representing an increase of approximately 19.5% compared to 2025. Since the start of its operations at Milan Malpensa, Wizz Air has carried more than 18.2 million passengers to and from the airport.
Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer, Wizz Air, said: “Milan continues to play a pivotal role in Wizz Air’s growth in Italy and across Europe. The addition of our 10th aircraft at Malpensa marks an important milestone in the development of this base and reflects our long-term commitment to the region. By expanding our network with new international destinations, strengthening key domestic connections and increasing capacity on high-demand routes, we are making travel even more accessible for passengers across Northern Italy. Together with our valued partner SEA Milan Airports, we are proud to continue investing in Milan’s connectivity, supporting tourism, business travel and the local economy while offering more choice and consistently low fares to millions of travellers. Let’s WIZZ, Milan!”
“We welcome the announcement of Wizz Air’s tenth aircraft to be based at Milano Malpensa,” said Aldo Schmid, Head of Aviation Business Development at SEA Milan Airports. “This further investment confirms the airline’s confidence in the development of Malpensa, a strategic gateway for international connectivity in Northern Italy. This growth will help expand travel opportunities for passengers while supporting the development of traffic, tourism, and the regional economy. The announcement further strengthens a partnership that continues to grow and comes as we prepare for the summer season with a significant expansion of the offer, including new services, destinations, and increased frequencies.”
The expansion in Milan forms part of Wizz Air’s broader growth strategy in Italy. In 2026, the airline plans to offer 27 million seats in the country, operating with a fleet of 36 aircraft based across its six Italian bases in Catania, Naples, Rome, Palermo, Milan and Venice during this year. Overall, Wizz Air’s Italian network includes 290 routes to 33 countries, confirming the airline’s role as one of the key drivers of international connectivity for Italy.
