Wizz Air today announces the opening of a new base at Santiago de Compostela Airport, with operations scheduled to begin on 1 February 2027. By basing one aircraft permanently in Galicia, the airline continues to expand its presence in Spain and reaffirms its long-term commitment to one of its key strategic markets in Europe.
The establishment of this new base will enable Wizz Air to launch seven new routes, including five domestic and two international services, offering travellers from Galicia a wider choice of destinations, more travel options, and stronger connectivity across Spain and Europe.
A New Chapter for Wizz Air in Galicia
The opening of the Santiago de Compostela base marks another milestone in Wizz Air's growth strategy in Spain. By basing an aircraft in Galicia, the airline will improve its operational efficiency, increase network flexibility, and create the infrastructure needed to support further growth in the region over the coming years.
As part of this expansion, passengers will be able to fly directly from Santiago de Compostela to Tenerife North, Fuerteventura, Málaga and Zaragoza, further strengthening Wizz Air's domestic network in Spain. In addition, the airline will introduce two new international connections to Rome Fiumicino and Warsaw Modlin, providing Galicia with direct access to two important European markets.
Tickets for all new routes will go on sale from 30 July 2026. The first service will commence on 1 December 2026 with the Warsaw Modlin–Santiago de Compostela route, followed by the Rome Fiumicino service on 14 December 2026. The five domestic routes will begin operations between 1 and 2 February 2027, coinciding with the opening of the new base.
With this latest expansion, Wizz Air continues to strengthen its Spanish network, offering travellers even more opportunities to fly both within the country and to some of Europe's most popular destinations.
The new Santiago de Compostela base builds on Wizz Air's recent expansion in Spain, following the previously announced operating bases in Madrid and Valencia.
